It is the sum of "small" subtle details that make a big difference in the end. I'm happy that everyday more people are interested in learning about it. Humanity moves forward with the powerful combination of affection and cognition.

Hugs and hugs,
Juan Juan Uribehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06432012762270852136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5471021887353100279.post-55801951013030387662014-02-05T05:16:41.214-05:002014-02-05T05:16:41.214-05:00Dear Fabiana,

I also agree with what you say, being affective to children does not mean they decide what to learn or do, they need to understand, little by little, that doing something they may not like the most, trains them to face life with a smile: what you get is not quite what you choose.
Fabiana Casellahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03963938089014952208noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5471021887353100279.post-63560139442900193212013-04-22T11:19:24.660-04:002013-04-22T11:19:24.660-04:00Thank you for your comment Mark!
You are certain...Thank you for your comment Mark!

You are certainly right when you say that affective learning is a student centered approach. I even prefer to use affective learning instead of affective teaching, and also to use WITH young learners instead of teaching TO them.

Your class seems to be very affective as you tell me that there is lots of communication and drawing, in which they can use language in creative ways. Writing is also important as it gives them and their parents the record of their learning.

I have also had students coming to class after a long day at school, which is a challenge. Talking to them about plans and giving some room for deciding together helps a lot. Being acknowledged is key here.

Look forward to meeting you in October too! Want to visit your school too, saw one picture of the reno and it will surely look fabulous.

Hug from Toronto,

JuanJuan Uribehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06432012762270852136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5471021887353100279.post-61595389751824184082013-04-20T19:53:48.008-04:002013-04-20T19:53:48.008-04:00Hi Juan. Very thought provoking.
What I gathered from your post is that affective teaching is a student-centered approach.
As in my teaching context, once a week for an hour, we spend the first 30 minutes on the floor doing communicative activities and the last 30 minutes is spent on the desk doing writing and drawing activities. This works pretty good for me.
I do need to work more on sparking my student's curiosity. Many of my students come to my class tired after a long day of schooling. It takes a lot of energy and preparation to keep them motivated. Actually, most of my free time is spent on reflection and making materials. That said, my hobby is my work.
Thanks again, Juan! Looking forward to seeing you here in Japan for the JALT conference.
Mark in GifuMarkKulekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17958151854521968383noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5471021887353100279.post-68258697279675781822012-10-06T17:38:29.533-04:002012-10-06T17:38:29.533-04:00Thank you Sharon for your lovely comment!
